I am an artist living in downtown Phnom Penh for 6 weeks. While I am here, I will be showing at the Meta House Gallery, an exhibition of some of my work entitled Isolations opening on Feb 2nd. I will also be creating work, and, perhaps most exciting, leading a residency workshop with a group of local artists.   The first group meeting with the artists will be tomorrow, Saturday. I have met some of them prior to this first official meeting, and looked at some of their work as well. We will be deciding how we will move forward in the coming weeks. They are an intriguing group of painters, photographers, and some mixed media. From what I understand there has been very little exposure to either video art or performance art for this group. I look forward to hearing their ideas, hopefully helping them in some way with their work, and most importantly to us all learning from each other. There seems to be a lot of interest in learning video technique, but, no surprise for everyone who knows me and my work, we will be focusing a lot on message, what to say and how to say it. The last thing I want to do is be responsible for more unneeded use of video or technology. The world has enough of that.

I will be documenting this process on this blog.  If you are interested please stop back often and catch up on my work and the work of the group.  I will be talking about my experiences as someone very new to Phnom Penh and Cambodia, but mostly talking about art, and it is my hope that many of you readers can join in the discussion.  I will take your comments to the group, and i look forward to your contributions to an intelligent and global discussion on how we as artists make work, and the role we play in our global and local communities.
