Dear Miller Rothlein Friend and Supporter,
A few years ago, I sent out a letter of thanks on behalf of Miller Rothlein (MIRO). In response to this note you, along with many of our other supporters, gave even more to sustain the work of this innovative company. I continue to be moved by these gifts. As the president of Miller Rothlein’s board of directors, I have seen Amanda and Tobin in many different contexts and I am privileged to know the people behind the performances you all enjoy. As an interested audience member, I also get to see Miller Rothlein from where you sit. When the lights come up and I witness all the work done in the office, the studio, their home, and onstage come together to make Miller Rothlein’s distinct vision happen, I am consistently floored by the results.
I wanted to write to you personally to thank you for your generous support of Miller Rothlein this past year. Thanks to you, the company has grown and is getting ready to delve into the development of new ideas that will mix contemporary dance and visual arts – creating work that defies description and pushes boundaries. As an organization, we understand that in today’s challenging economic environment you receive many worthy requests for contributions. On behalf of MIRO and the members of the board of directors, I wanted to express our commitment to the continued success of this company. Miller Rothlein intends to keep making its unique brand of art, and your investment will help us thrive.
By choosing to include Miller Rothlein in your giving this year, you will be investing in a company whose work will earn dividends throughout the year. You will be helping to bring about the cutting edge work MIRO is known to deliver, while at the same time providing educational opportunities for some of our area’s most deserving students.
Because of your support during the 2010/2011 season, Miller Rothlein expanded its artistic reach. We presented a commissioned work for the Philadelphia Museum of Art and traveled to the renowned EMPAC Festival in Troy, New York. MIRO’s PUNCH fused Commedia dell’arte with our rule-breaking style during the inaugural Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts. In Cambodia, Amanda worked with the Khmer Arts Ensemble in the creation of a new collaborative work. A thrilling three-part MIRO Mash-ups series paired our dancers with composers and a local rock band. A partnership with Mural Arts came together in Journeys South, and Tobin helped with the projected mural that previewed How Philly Moves during PIFA. To top it off, we closed the year with the best Cinco de MIRO ever, raising over $15,000.
Individual gifts to the company are the heart that sustains our work. The grants we have received from the William Penn Foundation, The Philadelphia Cultural Fund, and the Samuel S. Fels Fund would not be achieved without your support. You are the true foundation of our continued success. We take great pride in the groundbreaking work of Miller Rothlein. We look forward to hosting you in our studio and on our stages. Please continue to join us, and please bring your friends to see how your support benefits the Delaware Valley community, the students at Girard College, and the world of the Performing Arts. With your support, Miller Rothlein’s unique vision will continue to surprise and delight us all.
Sincerely,

Dr. David D. Timony
President, Board of Directors
